Sustainable Urbanisation Planning Workshop
The 6th
Sustainable Urbanisation Planning Workshop was organised on 6th June
2023 at New Delhi under India EU Urban Partnership (IEUP) support project in
coordination with Indian Institute of Public Administration.
The workshop
went through setting the context of Delhi from a metropolitan region planning
perspective and traversing through experience and learnings from past similar
workshops and finally a panel discussion was held to address a few pertinent
questions from the audience.
The
discussions encompassed the need for sustainable urban planning through a
plethora of interventions like making cities self-reliant through competition,
use of green construction materials, rejuvenating urban waterbodies, developing
satellite towns as a part of the conurbation, building regional transport
infrastructure through RRTS, and overall incentivisation to private sector as
vital elements of metropolitan planning. Metropolitan Planning Organisations of
Mumbai, Chennai and Indore (where such workshops were held under IEUP support
project in the last one year) participated and shared their learnings and key
action plans undertaken.
The event was
attended by more than 60 participants from EU delegation, School of Planning
and Architecture, New Delhi, officials from Government of NCT of Delhi, New
Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Metro
Rail Corporation Ltd, FICCI, Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Housing & Urban
Development Department, GIZ India, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development
Authority (MMRDA), Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA),
Indore Development Authority (IDA) etc.

event was a great success with the objective of a forward-looking approach to
ensure a smart and sustainable growth of the city.
